Saving your images as jpgs

1- Flattening your image

Layer --> Flatten Image

- it should say "background' as the only layer in Photoshop

2- use 'Save As' to save the file

File --> Save As --> jpeg

3- Name your file and hit 'Save'

4- in the JPEG Options box choose the following:

Getting your ATC set up for Augmented Reality

* How to split an image into 6 layers

Step 1 - Open your artist trading card in Photoshop. This will be your background in Artivive.

Step 2 - Duplicate the base layer to 7 create a copy on a second layer. Use the 'eraser tool' and/or the 8 selection tools to delete the aspects of the image that you don't want to see on that plane.

Step 3 - Repeat 'Step 2' until you have six total layers

Step 4 - Save your image as a PSD file

Your file can only contain seven layers in total. A background and six other layers.

Creating Artist Trading Card (ATC) in Photohsop.

1) create a new 2.5" x 3.5" document at 180 dpi (resolution) ---- File New

2) use "save as" to save the document 8 times as "temp-1.psd", "temp-2.psd", "temp-3.psd".....

3) find images on the internet and save them to your desktop. *Make sure to use the advanced search function to search for "Large" Images only

4) open your images in Photoshop and "Copy" and "Paste" them into your Template file. You should have 3 persons,places, and/or things, 1 texture and 1 layer of color.

5) move and alter your layers ----- Try "erasing", changing the "blend mode" of a layer, "selecting" and "deleting", using "adjustments" and "filters"

6) when finished save the file as a .PSD (These files will need to be "Flattened" to be saved as the final JPEG file.)

Take 10 min to gather the following:

- 5 jpgs of landscapes

- 5 jpgs of textures

- 5 jpgs of objects

- 10 jpgs of people or animals

- each group of images should be saved in a folder labeled with what it is.

- three 2.5 x 3.5" artist trading card templates saved as PSDs

- you have 5 min for the first ATC

- you have 4 min for the second ATC

Artist Trading Cards

description:

For this project you will be creating 'Artist Trading Cards' also known as ATCs. The creation of ATCs by artist comes from a long history of artists trading small samples of their work with other artist or were sold to make a little extra cash. They were very popular with Impressionistic era artists. The cards are generally 2.5" x 3.5" big and are either unique or are created in small editions.

whats due:

- 8 different Artist Trading Cards, 2.5" x 3.5" in size at 180dpi.

- Each card shows examples of your ability to manipulate images using Photoshop

- Each card should have a total of at least 5 layers. 3 layers of persons, places, and/or things, 1 texture layer and 1 layer of color.

- All your cards files need to be uploaded as flattened 'jpegs' to the Google class assignment album.

What should you do?

This is an open project. Be creative, express yourself. Find your style, create something retro-cool, urban chic, surreal abstraction, whatever, just create 8 images you are proud of.

First due date: Beginning of class Wed Sept 28th

Your 8 images uploaded to the class Google Albums. Label your card files with your first and last name and a number.

Example - joevonstengel-1.jpg, joevonstengel-2.jpg. Save as JPEG file format.

Second due date: day of the final

Layout your artist trading cards as 8 ups. Print your two best cards 16 times each. Cut them out and sign them. Have them ready for the final

Semester Long Project: Visual Diary

One image uploaded 1 hour before class starts (Mon, Wed, Fri) For this assignment you are required to take a photograph that represents the "moment" you are experiencing before each class. How you interpret this is up to you.

Share this image up on Google Photos in the "Art116 Visual Diary" album.

Project 1

Take 25 photographs exploring Hartwick with the camera on your cellphone. The goal is to take 25 terrible photographs. You need to break all the rules. Try taking a picture while running or getting so close the image is blurry. Take images from a high angle, get low, get close, get far, hold your camera at an angle instead of perfectly horizontally.

Upload your favorite 5 images to the Google Photos Album

  Project 2 Vector Image in Wood

description: For this project you will be creating a BxW drawing that will be converted into a vector graphic and etched in wood or plastic.

1. Using a sharpie create a pattern or drawing or abstraction in a 5" x 5" square on a piece of white paper.

2 . Repeat the process six times

3. Upload the file to the class Google Photos Album

4. Participate in the group critique.

5 . Convert the image that was chosen in the critique to an SVG and email it to the professor.

Things to consider: Your image will be cut out of a 5x5 inch square. The image will need to be in two colors only black and white. The router will etch the black lines into the wood. The white is the wood.

Project 3 Artist Trading Cards

description: For this project you will be creating 'Artist Trading Cards' also known as ATCs. The cards are generally 2.5" x 3.5" in size.

- 8 different Artist Trading Cards, 2.5" x 3.5" in size at 180dpi.

- Each card shows examples of your ability to manipulate images using Photopea or Photoshop 

* Each card should have a total of at least five layers:

- Three layers should be generated using ImageFX (link above) of landscapes and/or things

- One texture layer

- One layer of color

- All your cards files need to be uploaded as flattened 'jpegs' to the Google class assignment album.

Project 3.5 ATC - AR Experience

description:

Break one of your Artist trading cards into six layers. Save the layers as PNG files and upload them into Artivive.

Project 4 Virtual Sculpture

For this assignment you will be creating abstract sculptures using TinkerCad and Vectary, 3d molding software. Part 1 - create at least 10 different prototypes 3D models spending no more than 10min on each model. Show the professor your 3D models. Part 2 - Texture wrap the four 3D models the professor picked. Wrap 2 with JPEGs from your artist trading cards. The other 4 can be wrapped with any JPG images you choose.
